The Deer Valley Unified School District had serious problems with the outdated facility and decided to undertake an overall campus modernization plan. Because the design involved the entire building and site, the project was broken down into four phases.

Site improvements included expanded parking, improved circulation for bus lanes and parent drop-off points and enhanced landscaping. Building improvements included an expanded kindergarten area, upgrades to the classrooms, science labs, arts classrooms and a new library/media center. Administrative offices were relocated to a new building.
