The 3600 GSF renovation/construction project presented numerous challenges to the design team. The floor plan was never designed to accommodate the WIC services program and was extremely crowded and inefficient. There was very little natural lighting and the building systems were out of date. The building’s 4-inch thick, tilt-up exterior walls were kept intact and the roof and all interior partitions were demolished. The new design features a more efficient layout with bright, colorful spaces for clients. Energy efficiency was greatly improved through the use of new rain-screen walls, a super-insulated roof and enhanced natural lighting with solar tubes.
